Plumber in South Golden Beach, NSW

Working around South Golden Beach, from the beach streets to the canal and the levee

South Golden Beach is a small coastal village, with Pottsville to the north and Brunswick Heads to the south. The beach is on one side. The Capricornia Canal runs through the back of the village, and the Billinudgel Nature Reserve lies to the north. The land is low and flat, close to sea level, on what was coastal floodplain. A levee protects the village, and a flood pump serves the western side to limit high water in the canals. We work in the beach streets and in the blocks west of the canal.

The village has no fuel station and one takeaway shop, and its streets are low-density and quiet. Tell us your street, not only the suburb. Council's village plan includes assessing the rear drainage easements and starting a maintenance program for them, so a yard drain at the back of a block may run into one, and we ask where yours ends. Many houses here sit well off the ground, so there is often room to get under them.

The land was subdivided in the 1950s and 60s, and the housing is mixed. Some original fibro beach shacks still stand beside contemporary rebuilds. An old shack may have had its bathroom altered several times, while a rebuild hides its pipes inside walls and under floors, where a leak is harder to find. Sand and salt from the beach wear on outdoor taps and fittings at both. Which kind of house you have changes how we start.

What we do here most

What a low beachside village behind a levee keeps needing

Two things connect the jobs below: salt and sand from the beach, and a village built low, where water has to be moved away on purpose.

Sewer and Stormwater Drainage

Yard drain running to a rear easement

Some blocks in South Golden Beach back onto a rear drainage easement, and Council has listed those easement drains for assessment and maintenance. If your yard drain empties toward the back, water that cannot get away there holds up the water in your own pipe. We find where your drain ends, lift the nearest pit and see whether it drains. If the blockage sits past your boundary, we show you where.

Tap Repairs and Replacement

Seized outdoor tap and shower near the beach

Sand and salt get into outdoor taps, hose fittings and any shower where wet feet come in from the beach. A tap that will not turn, or drips from the spindle, often has grit in it or a worn washer. We close the supply, strip the tap down on the spot and look at the seat and the washer. If the body is pitted, we fit a new tap rather than rebuild it.

Drain Camera Inspections

Camera run before renovating an old beach shack

A shack from the 1960s or 70s that is about to be rebuilt or extended may have a drain that nobody has looked at in years. Before anything is built over it, we run a camera from the nearest opening and follow the line toward the street connection. We note any cracks, roots and sags, and mark them on the ground. Then the new work does not bury a fault.

Leak Detection and Repairs

Hidden leak in a contemporary rebuild

A modern rebuild hides most of its pipes inside walls and under floors. The first sign is often a meter that keeps moving with every tap closed, or a damp patch on a plaster wall. We close the main, watch the meter, then close the branches one by one until it stops moving. That narrows a whole wall or floor to a single run before we cut anything.

If it is urgent

If a pipe lets go in a South Golden Beach house near the canal

  1. 1Close the stop tap at the meter. If the water is outside, take care on wet ground and keep clear of any outdoor power point or cable until it has been dealt with.
  2. 2Leave the pipes under a raised house alone while water is running, and keep out of the space under it if the ground there is wet. It is low and tight, and the ground can be soaked.
  3. 3When you ring, tell us your street, whether you are on the beach side of the village or west of the Capricornia Canal, whether the house is raised or sits low, and whether the water is coming from a pipe or a drain.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Which areas do you cover?

We work across Byron Bay and the Northern Rivers, from Ewingsdale and Bangalow through to Tweed Heads and Murwillumbah. There are sixteen places on the service areas page. If your town is not on the list, give us a call and ask.

How do I get in touch?

Use the call and email buttons on any page, or the contact form. There are two phone numbers and two email addresses, and you choose which one to use. For anything urgent, call rather than write.

What should I have ready when I call?

Your town, what is happening and when it started. If you can, take a photo or a short video of the problem, and note the age of the house and where the water main is. It helps us bring the right parts.

Do you do small jobs?

Yes. A dripping tap, a running toilet or a slow drain is a normal job for us. Describe what you can see when you call.

Can you clear a blocked drain without digging?

Often the first step is to clear it from the nearest access point, then run a camera through to see what caused it. If the pipe is cracked, roots have grown in or a section has dropped, clearing only buys time, and the footage shows you what is going on.

What should I do if a pipe bursts?

Close the main tap, open a tap at the lowest point to drain the line, and switch off a leaking hot water system at the wall. Move anything electrical out of the water's path, then call us.

Can you find a leak I cannot see?

Hidden leaks often show up as damp patches, a water meter that moves when everything is turned off, or a bill that suddenly jumps. We trace the pipework to find the source before anything is opened up.

Do you repair hot water systems as well as replace them?

Yes, we do both. Whether a repair or a replacement makes sense depends on what has failed, and we explain what we find so you can decide.

What should I do if I smell gas?

Leave the area straight away and do not switch anything on or off, including lights. Ring 000 from outside, then call us once you are safe.

Do you do gas fitting?

Yes. Gas fitting and gas plumbing is one of our services, from connecting appliances to running pipework. Describe the job when you call.

Do you install septic systems?

Yes, septic system installation is one of our services. The job depends on the block, so tell us about your property and what you have now when you call.

Do you do bathroom and kitchen plumbing for renovations?

Yes, the plumbing side: moving and connecting taps, basins, toilets, showers, sinks and waste. Tiling and building are for other trades.
