Working along Kingscliff's Marine Parade, the streets behind it and the road toward Salt
Kingscliff is a coastal town 13 kilometres south of Tweed Heads, and the work here follows the water. Marine Parade runs along the beach, with the creek beside it. Most jobs sit in the streets just behind that strip: older cottages on blocks cut from the early subdivisions, low holiday apartments, and cabins and units that fill up in the holidays. South of the town centre the newer resort buildings of Salt begin. The whole town stands only a few metres above the sea, and close to the beach the ground is sand.
Parking is the first thing to sort out along Marine Parade, so tell us where a van can stand. In a block of units, the stop tap, the hot water unit and the drain access are often in shared areas, and we need whoever holds that key before we arrive. For a holiday let, tell us when the next guests check in. In the older streets the blocks are flat and the drives are easy, but a trench beside a slab in sand wants its sides watched, so we dig it a short length at a time.
The oldest houses here date from the subdivisions that began in 1915, when Kingscliff was growing into a quiet seaside holiday place. Houses of that age can still have galvanised steel water pipe, which rusts from the inside, and clay drain pipe, which cracks where roots push into the joints. More than one home in five in Kingscliff is a flat or apartment, and in those the pipes are shared: a stack through the floors, a riser in a cupboard, a leak that shows as a stain on the ceiling below. Newer buildings use plastic pipe, so a leak there is more often at a joint or fitting.
What we do here most
What a beach town of cottages and holiday units keeps needing
Salt air, sandy ground and holiday units that sit quiet and then fill up wear fittings and drains in a particular way. The four jobs below all start there.
Hot Water System Repairs and Installation
Salt-eaten fittings on an outdoor hot water unit
A hot water unit on an outside wall a street or two from the beach lives in salt air. The copper connections and the relief valve go green and crusty long before the tank itself gives up. We isolate the water and the power, strip the corroded fittings and replace them if the tank behind them is still sound. If the base of the tank has rusted through, you hear that at the same visit.
Blocked Drain Clearing
Holiday unit toilet blocking when guests arrive
A unit sits quiet for a week, then six people use one toilet and one shower in a morning. Whatever has been settling in the drain, or whatever roots have grown into a joint, shows itself that day. We find the lowest fixture that is backing up, clear the line from the nearest access point, and run a camera to see why it blocked. If it is roots or a cracked joint, you hear about it before we leave.
Leak Detection and Repairs
A wet patch beside an old beach cottage
A damp patch in the lawn or a soft spot beside a cottage path can mean a pinhole in an old galvanised pipe rather than a burst. Sand lets water spread and sink quickly, so the surface may look dry some distance from the leak. We shut the water at the meter, listen along the pipe, and dig a small hole at the likeliest spot. We keep the hole short and the sides shored, because sand slumps.
Sewer and Stormwater Drainage
Roots in the old drain of an early cottage
Cottages from the early subdivisions can still have their original clay drain, running under the kitchen or the verandah and out to the back. After years, roots find the joints and the pipe slowly silts up. We put a camera down the line, mark where the roots enter and how far the pipe has moved, and show you the footage. Whether it can be cleared or has to be dug up depends on what the camera shows.
If it is urgent
If a pipe lets go in a Kingscliff unit or beach cottage
- 1Close the stop tap. In a cottage it is at the meter near the front boundary. In a unit block it may be in a shared cupboard, so find whoever holds the key. Switch off a leaking hot water unit at the wall.
- 2Leave the digging alone. Do not dig down beside a slab or wall to hunt for the pipe, because sand slumps back and can undermine the footing. Do not keep running taps to test the leak.
- 3Tell us whether it is a cottage or a unit, and which floor. If it is a holiday let, tell us who holds the key and when the next guests are due.
Common questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Which areas do you cover?
We work across Byron Bay and the Northern Rivers, from Ewingsdale and Bangalow through to Tweed Heads and Murwillumbah. There are sixteen places on the service areas page. If your town is not on the list, give us a call and ask.
How do I get in touch?
Use the call and email buttons on any page, or the contact form. There are two phone numbers and two email addresses, and you choose which one to use. For anything urgent, call rather than write.
What should I have ready when I call?
Your town, what is happening and when it started. If you can, take a photo or a short video of the problem, and note the age of the house and where the water main is. It helps us bring the right parts.
Do you do small jobs?
Yes. A dripping tap, a running toilet or a slow drain is a normal job for us. Describe what you can see when you call.
Can you clear a blocked drain without digging?
Often the first step is to clear it from the nearest access point, then run a camera through to see what caused it. If the pipe is cracked, roots have grown in or a section has dropped, clearing only buys time, and the footage shows you what is going on.
What should I do if a pipe bursts?
Close the main tap, open a tap at the lowest point to drain the line, and switch off a leaking hot water system at the wall. Move anything electrical out of the water's path, then call us.
Can you find a leak I cannot see?
Hidden leaks often show up as damp patches, a water meter that moves when everything is turned off, or a bill that suddenly jumps. We trace the pipework to find the source before anything is opened up.
Do you repair hot water systems as well as replace them?
Yes, we do both. Whether a repair or a replacement makes sense depends on what has failed, and we explain what we find so you can decide.
What should I do if I smell gas?
Leave the area straight away and do not switch anything on or off, including lights. Ring 000 from outside, then call us once you are safe.
Do you do gas fitting?
Yes. Gas fitting and gas plumbing is one of our services, from connecting appliances to running pipework. Describe the job when you call.
Do you install septic systems?
Yes, septic system installation is one of our services. The job depends on the block, so tell us about your property and what you have now when you call.
Do you do bathroom and kitchen plumbing for renovations?
Yes, the plumbing side: moving and connecting taps, basins, toilets, showers, sinks and waste. Tiling and building are for other trades.

Tell us about your Kingscliff unit or cottage
Tell us whether it is a cottage on its own block or a unit in a building, and roughly how far it is from the beach. That decides whether we plan for sand and salt, or for a shared key and a shared stack. A photo of the wet spot or the fitting helps.
